German authorities
First of all, please contact Alexander Grun at the NeuroCure Office (Tel.: 030 450 539 704 or Email) before taking further steps. He is the person in charge for NeuroCure personnel.
Please take care of the following items before you sign your contract (see therefore also checklist.
1. Registration with the local authorities at the Bürgeramt (Local Registration Office)*.
Please apply for:
- Address registration (Anmeldung)

citizens (where applicable)
(EU Freizügigkeitsbescheinigung)
* For addresses and opening times of your neighborhood Bürgeramt, see http://www.berliner-adressen.de/Amter_Behorden/Buergeraemter/. Generally, you can go to any of the Local Registration Offices.
2. Local Immigration Office
After registering your address you will have to go to the Local Immigration Office (public authority responsible for aliens) and apply for a residence or work permit.
You will have to bring your letter of invitation, your employment offer, the address registration, and 60 Euros for the residence permit.
You may also contact Pamela Glowacki at the Charité Welcome Center at 450 570 076 or by email at pamela.glowacki@charite.de.
3. Application for Income Tax Card
With your residence or work permit, you should go to the Local Registration Office to request an income tax card (Lohnsteuerkarte) and certificate of good conduct (Führungszeugnis).
Request the Führungszeugnis (approximately 15 Euros) to be sent to:
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Geschäftsbereich
Personal (B 6 L)
Augustenburger
Platz 1
13353 Berlin
4. German bank account
The Charité pays salary via bank wire transfer only, so youneed a local bank account, for example at the Sparkasse or Deutsche Bank, etc.
5. Health insurance (Krankenkasse)
We recommend the Techniker Krankenkasse, especially since they provide services in English. For information and registration, please see http://www.tk-online.de/tk/tk/english/145048. If you are not satisfied with the TK, you are free to change later.
Important: please apply at the same time (i.e. through your health insurance) for a Sozialversicherungsausweis – social insurance card.
6. Pre-employment exam with company doctor (Betriebsarzt)
Ideally, you should have your appointment before you sign your contract. However, if this is not possible, you must show that you have made an appointment, e.g. bring the appointment date/time with you when you sign your contract. Call 450 570700 for appointment.
7. Passport-sized photo
(loose, not scanned; biometric measurements).
You will need at least one for your Charité ID-card, but it is a good idea to have a few made – this can be done at any photography store or photo-automat.
