NeuroCure is a Cluster of Excellence working in the field of neurosciences at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, funded in the framework of the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal Government and the state governments. The aim is to sustainably improve the life situation of patients with neurological diseases. At the center of the interdisciplinary research network is the faster translation of scientific findings from fundamental research into clinical application.

Scientists from six scientific organizations conduct research into the functioning of the nervous system in a total of 48 working groups. In this way it is intended to gain an improved understanding of the disease mechanisms in order to be able to develop effective therapies.

So far the NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence focused on neurological disorders such as stroke, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. In addition, the scientists conduct research on psychiatric disorders like Alzheimer´s, autism, depression and schizophrenia.

With various measures, NeuroCure is creating sustainable structures for Berlin as a site for neuroscientific research.

The NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence is being funded since 2007 till 2017 in the framework of the Excellence Initiative by the German federal and state governments. In addition to the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Freie Universität Berlin, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP) and the Deutsche Rheuma-Forschungszentrum (DRFZ) participate in NeuroCure.
