Christian Spahn is new member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina

In recognition of his scientific achievements, Professor Christian Spahn was elected in June 2016 as a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, one of the most prestigious scientific awards given by a German institution.

Professor Spahn has been Director of the Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin since 2009, and member of the Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure since 2011. His research focuses on the structure and dynamics of macromolecular machines using three-dimensional cryo-electron microscopy.

Founded in 1652, the Leopoldina is one of the oldest science academies in the world. It represents the German scientific community in international committees and speaks out on social and political questions, providing a nonpartisan, factual framework for discussion.
